  • The print and radio media have assisted greatly in increasing awareness through ongoing coverage of the problems pirated product causes to consumers, business and the economy in general through news bulletins and talk shows.

  • Pirating of films and games was subject of a 30 minute current affairs programme aired on a TV channel of the national broadcaster.

  • SAFACT has established Local Anti-Piracy forums outside the main centres, bringing together rental and retail outlets, cinemas, the police, business chambers, Film and Publication Board monitors and SARS on a regular basis to discuss problems in their immediate area and to provide information on the operations of pirates.

Awareness Campaigns - 2005

"Crime Sucks !!!"

In 2005 SAFACT launched a multi-million rand public awareness campaign which included a new website www.crimesucks.co.za. The campaign which consists of 2 television commercial which will be shown 200 times and 3 radio commercials which will be aired 500 times during the festive season appeals to public not to support pirated DVD's and games. The message is "Stop Piracy, Stop Crime".

There were also billboards, stickers and leaflets distributed throughout the country. We believe in the inherent honesty of all South Africans and hope that the message will be taken seriously by all our citizens.
